BERAHA Marina

Presentation

Writings

Free Will Between Nature and Ethics: a Concept to Overcome?
M.S. FINAL THESIS Aug. 2019 - Jul. 2020
• Supervisor: Prof. Gianfranco Mormino, Co-supervisor: Prof. Stefano Di Bella.
• I have inquired the possibility of existence of free will, through an examination of the mind-body debate and an analysis of the phenomenology of free action. Having come to exclude such possibility, I have researched the ethical consequences of this theoretical assessment, in particular regarding the concepts of justice, moral responsibility, desert and punishment.

The Return of the Gadfly. Philosophy in Prison
PAPER PUBLISHED IN INCIRCOLO - JOURNAL OF PHILOSOPHY AND CULTURES Jun. 2018
• Based on my long-term experience of philosophical practices in prison, I enquired the role of philosophy and of dialectic in the prison environment.
• I have translated my paper in English for the Incarceration Nations Network Project.

Educating for Democracy: Martha Nussbaum and John Dewey Against the Human Capital Theory
B.S. FINAL THESIS Aug. 2017 - Dec. 2017
• Supervisor: Prof. Beatrice Magni.
• On the basis of Dewey’s conception of democracy, I proposed, following some of Nussbaum’s steps, a theory of education that opposes the human capital model, according to which education aims at building skills, considering the major aim of education the building of citizens capable of improving and revise their beliefs during the course of their whole life.
